Artistic Director
WIYSO is proud to welcome Maestro Georges-Étienne d'Entremont as our new Artistic Director starting in the 2024-2025 season!
Conductor of the Orchestre symphonique des jeunes de la Montérégie since the 2015-2016 season, Georges-Étienne d'Entremont studied saxophone with Claude Brisson, piano with Monique Leblanc, orchestral conducting with Raffi Armenian and Stéphane Laforest, and choral conducting with Louis Lavigueur at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. He then went on to perfect his skills at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart (Germany), studying with Per Borin.
Assistant conductor and choirmaster of the UQÀM opera workshop for Le Nozze di Figaro (2002) and Carmen (2003), he continued his apprenticeship in lyrical works in competitions and festivals in Romania, Hungary, and Spain. He returned to UQÀM in 2008, where he participated in the end-of-year concert as director of musical ensembles.
He also devotes himself to the dissemination of contemporary music, having performed as a guest conductor with the Ensemble Allogène at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur and as part of the Montréal/Nouvelles Musiques festival. In addition, he completed a professional development cycle at the Conservatoire focusing on contemporary music, where he worked with Véronique Lacroix. He was invited to conduct several premieres there, notably with the symphony orchestra, the brass ensemble, and the percussion ensemble.
He is part of the teaching staff of the Camp musical Père Lindsay, where he conducts the string orchestra during the third session.
